Sportswear from the Far East
After the turmoil of World War II, the present-day Asics public company was founded in Kobe, Japan in 1949. The name of the company is made up of the Latin “Anima Sana in Corpore Sano” which translates to “Healthy Mind in a Healthy Body”. The ancient Romans had already known this phrase which now is the company philosophy of Asics. The company was founded under the name Onitsuka Tiger by Kihachiro Onitsuka, who had the following idea in mind: he aimed to offer the young people in his country a new vision by the help of sports. Today, Asics is the fifth largest manufacturer of sports equipment and has worldwide branches.
Asics’ on-site developments
For the development of new shoes, Asics attaches importance to the fact that its shoes are geared to the needs of the athletes and that body and mind are in harmony. In order to pursue this aim, the company established an on-site research centre in 1990, which is one of the largest research centres worldwide. The close cooperation with athletes and coaches has encouraged the development of functional textiles and sports shoes. At the research centre, the company, for example, examines motion sequences and performs material tests. Founding this research centre, Asics has clearly driven its aim forward to support each and every athlete on his way, be it a professional or not.
You can recognise Asics shoes by the lateral Tiger Stripes and the ∂ placed in front of the Asics lettering. The stripes represent functional quality together with the passion for detail. The company again and again has new ideas for the design of its products and, furthermore, has a good deal of courage to help establish new solution approaches. So all kinds of athletes worldwide wear Asics shoes; these shoes are also present at large sports events such as the Olympic Games. But also in parks we can see more or less ambitious runners, be it men or women, with Asics shoes on their feet, doing sports just for the fun of it.
