Back then, the company was named Converse Rubber Shoe Company and mainly produced winter shoes. Over the years the brand experienced several changes of ownership and is now owned by Nike. A canvas sneaker designed for basketball, the All Star was first launched in black in 1917. The professional basketball player Charles Hollie Taylor, known as Chuck Taylor, approached the company in 1921 to give some suggestions for improvement of the All Star because Taylor’s feet ached when he played in these shoes.
