A leading producer of broadcloth and knitwear, the traditional brand Giesswein from Tyrol has been very popular for decades. Walter and Elisabeth Giesswein started to produce knitwear from new wool already in 1954, but had their breakthrough only in 1974 with the launch of their famous slipper socks made from broadcloth, which quickly became an international bestseller. But Giesswein doesn't only produce classic felt slippers and Tyrolean jackets as the Austrian brand has impressively proven only recently: with the help of crowdfunding, Giesswein was able to produce its first outdoor shoes made from merino wool, called Merino Runners, in 2017. There was a great demand for these innovative feel-good sneakers, which were constantly sold out for some while. But why are Giesswein Merino Runners that compelling and what is so special about merino wool?
