Things to know about Saucony

Saucony is an American sports brand that is by no means unknown to athletes. Founded in Pennsylvania in 1898, the brand derived its name from Saucony Creek as the company was founded on the banks of the Saucony. The Saucony Shoe Manufacturing Company, as it was originally called, produced running shoes. Independently, Abraham Hyde launched a shoe company named A.R. Hyde & Sons in 1910 and successfully produced slip-on shoes. Since 1923 he had been producing roller skates and in 1938 he added baseball shoes and bowling shoes to his range of goods. In 1968, these two companies merged. Then in 1977 the brand rapidly grew in popularity when a pair of shoes won the prestigious “Best Quality Award” of a US magazine. The “Trainer 80” was the first slip-proof running shoe on the market.

In the early 1990s, the brand developed the Grid system that combines stability and cushioning. In 1998, the name of the brand was officially changed from Hyde Athletic Industries to Saucony which marks the actual birth of Saucony. More awards followed, including one for the Flexion Plate technology and several for shoe models which are also available for men and women at our online shop. PowerGrid is a very light cushioning foam for superior comfort that delivers a smooth and rebound-filled ride. iBR+ is a sturdy rubber outsole which is ultra light and further enhances the high level of cushioning. The low-profile midsole allows for a smooth transition from heel strike to toe-off. Other lightweight materials are used such as the FlexFilm material that is welded to the upper for a seamless and flexible feel. This allows for fewer layers in the shoe and, thus, helps reduce the weight. The SAUC-FIT system uses stretch components at the midfoot so that heel and forefoot of the shoe can flex and move with the foot. In addition, the SRC Crash Pad (Super Rebound Compund) provides durable shock absorption and a smooth transition.
